The Ideal Bride Guide to... what to ask suppliers
With so much to organise, it can be hard to know where to start. A good place to begin is with the suppliers, after all without the cake, the photographer, the dress or the flowers there is no wedding! Once you have identified the suppliers you require, you will need to begin contacting them to discuss your specifications.
At Ideal Bride we know how important it is to find the right suppliers, we have compiled an Ideal Bride Guide to... What to ask suppliers to give couples an idea of what they should be considering when meeting with potential suppliers.
What to ask your cake maker
- Can you view examples of their work?
- Can you choose from a selection of different fillings?
- Is it possible to sample their cakes?
- Can you have mixed flavour layers?
- When and how will you pay?
- Will they come to the venue on the day to assemble the cake?
- Can you have a combination of fruit and sponge tiers?
What to ask your dress maker
- Is there a fee to try on dresses?
- Will other brides be trying on dresses at the same time as you?
- Is there a time limit on your appointment, if so how long?
- Is there a limit on the amount of dresses brides can try on?
- How long should brides allow to have a dress made?
- Is there a fee for alterations?
- How many fittings will a bride have?
- Should brides bring accessories along with them i.e. shoes, lingerie, headdress etc?
- Do you offer co-ordinating accessories?
- Is a deposit required, if so how much?
- When should the remainder of the balance be settled?
- Will the dress be delivered or will brides collect it?
What to ask your florist
- Can you see examples of their work?
- Is the florist doing any other weddings on the same day as yours?
- Will the florist that you have had consultations with be the florist who works on your bouquets/flowers or will it be someone else?
- Can they suggest ways for you to stay on target with your budget? i.e. can they suggest a cheaper flower that has the same effect?
- Is there a maximum distance they are prepared to travel to dress your venue?
- When will you pay them and how?
- Do they charge for breakages?
- How long do they require for set up?
What to ask your photographer
- Do they have a portfolio you can view?
- Do they use film or digital cameras?
- What is their style of photography? Posed, natural, traditional, contemporary?
- How many pictures will they take?
- Who will own the copyright of the pictures once they have been taken?
- How long will the photographer stay and how many photographers will there be?
- Will the photographer visit the venue before the wedding?
- When can the bride expect to receive the pictures?
- How do their fees work and do they have multiple packages?
- Will they set up an online gallery?
What to ask your caterer
- Can you combine two menus?
- Can they alter menus to reflect or better suit your budget?
- Do they offer a menu tasting service?
- Do you have to pay for a tasting?
- What does the service include? Do they provide waiting staff, crockery, glasses, cutlery etc?
- Do they provide alcohol?
- If you provide the alcohol are you subject to corking fees?
- How far in advance should I make the booking?
What to ask your entertainment
- Does your DJ have a varied playlist?
- Does your band play recorded music during sets?
- Can your band provide a demo cd?
- Do they need a meal on the day or will they make their own provisions?
- Do they need a room to get changed before they perform?
- How long do they take to set up?
- How long will they play for?
- Will they play requests from guests?
What to ask your venue
- Is the venue available on the required date?
- Is the venue easy to find and easy accessible?
- Will you wedding be the only one on that day?
- Do they allow confetti to be thrown?
- Are there opportunities to take photographs both inside and outside the venue?
- Is there sufficient overnight accommodation for guests at the venue?
- Is the venue flexible with timings throughout the day?
- Does the venue accommodate the number of guests your wish to invite?
- Is there an additional service charge?
- Are you able to use suppliers of your choice or do you have to use those recommended by the venue?
- Are you able to decorate the venue in your colour scheme or theme?
- Do they offer a toast master service?
What to ask your hairdresser
- Are they available on the required dates?
- How many trial runs do they offer?
- How and when do you pay them?
