Elizabeth Taylor's Couture wardrobe is set to go under the hammer, including the wedding dress she wore when she married Richard Burton in 1964. The wardrobe of around 400 fashion items is currently on a three month global tour before going on sale at Christies on December 14. The global tour will see the wardrobe stopping in Los Angeles, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Paris and Geneva. Many of the items set to be auctioned were couture, custom made for Elizabeth by designers who became close friends of the actress, including Gianni Versace.
Versace designed a beaded evening jacket for the actress, the jacket was adorned with portraits of the actress from some of her most famous movie roles. The jacket is expected to sell for up to £13,000. The sunflower yellow dress by Hollywood designer Irene Sharaff that Taylor wore to her 1964 wedding to Burton has an estimated sale price of £26,000 to £39,000.

The actress, who is just as famous for her numerous weddings as she is her acting career, wed Richard Burton twice. The first time was March 15 1964, they divorced ten years later on June 26 1974 and the second wedding took place on October 10 1975 but saw them divorce months later on July 29 1976. In total Taylor had been married eight times to seven husbands, when asked why she married so often she replied " I don't know honey, sure beats the hell out of me. I was taught by my parents that if you fall in love, if you want to have a love affair, you get married. I guess I am very old-fashioned."
A portion of the proceeds raised by the auction, exhibition and other events will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which the actress founded in 1991.
