Style & Inspiration
Struggling to find her perfect bridal accessories for her wedding day, prompted fashion and textile graduate, Nicola Wellard to reflect on her 10 years of experience and take matters into her own hands; leading to the inception of Silver Sixpence in her shoe.
Taking its name from the traditional rhyme something old, something new, something borrowed something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe. Tradition states a bride should place a lucky silver sixpence in her left shoe to bring her wealth and happiness throughout married life.
As a lover of these wedding traditions Nicola tries to keep them alive through her own designs with thoughtful little touches, a single blue pearl embellishment for your something blue or a delicate lace collar restored into a headband motif for your something old.
Nicola loves creating heirlooms of the future, an accidental gift of a box of old handmade laces and appliqués was the inspiration behind the 2012 collection from up and coming contemporary bridal accessories designer, Silver Sixpence in her Shoe.
Including her signature headpieces, birdcage veils and exquisite garters, this season sees the addition of quirky shoe clips and unique decorated horseshoes. The collection is designed to appeal to the modern bride who wishes to create a perhaps vintage inspired, certainly individual look. Using antique laces and adornments, each piece is handcrafted and one off. The stunning Delilah headband has been made using a tiny lace collar lovingly restored and embellished with tiny crystals.
Also offering a bespoke service, founder Nicola Wellard encourages her clients to bring family heirlooms, such as jewellery, to their consultation, allowing her to create something beautiful and entirely unique with a personal emotional attachment for the bride.
Looking for an alternative to a traditional hen party? Why not take advantage of Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe's 'Craft your own headpiece' party afternoons, perfect for brides wishing to create their own unique look and a great way to include all members of the bridal party, whatever their age.
Party prices start at £30 per head which includes all the gorgeous vintage inspired materials and your headpiece. The parties can take place at your home or in one of the venues in Manchester Nicola works with. Bespoke packages are tailored to your needs contact Nicola for a quotation.
