Style & Inspiration
Cakes by Beth create luxury, modern wedding cakes and dessert tables, plus beautiful edible favours that add the real wow factor to your wedding reception. Every element of the cake is hand-crafted from scratch using only the finest ingredients. There are no artificial flavours or preservatives and no hidden costs.
Owner Beth Mottershead launched Cakes by Beth at the start of 2011, combining her scientific skills with her artistic flair and passion for cake design. Cakes by Beth has grown into a thriving business, creating bespoke, exciting & unique wedding cakes for couples marrying in the North West and much further afield.
To celebrate the start of the new year, Beth launched her latest collection of stunning wedding cake designs, which were not only striking centrepieces on their own but can be teamed with accessories for a coordinated look, either as favours or as part of a beautiful dessert table display.
From the soft pastel shades of the Tumbling Hearts & Flowers and Just Peachy designs, to the bright colours of Nautical Love and Woodland Romance, through to the dark and sultry Sketched Roses and Gothic Birdcage, each cake and its accessories show a different look and feel, but all with classic Cakes by Beth touches.

What kind of service can your brides expect?
"Personal, tailored and enthusiastic. From the initial email contact, through to the consultation, the design process and the set up on the day, every aspect of creating the wedding cake is personal to the couple and their requirements. Cakes are my passion and I love nothing more than finding out about couples wedding plans and designing an exciting, modern wedding cake to perfectly compliment their day.
I find that couples can be apologetic about not knowing quite what cake they would like or having lots of ideas buzzing around their heads, but this is honestly not a problem! I relish the opportunity to combine and refine all of these ideas into a cake design that couples will love and is unique to them."
What makes Cakes by Beth different from other cake suppliers?
"My design ideas and attention to detail. I have a scientific background and I think this really shines through when couples speak to me. I find the problem solving aspect of finding that perfect wedding cake incredibly exciting and love pushing the boundaries to create wedding cakes that are simple and not too fussy, but have interesting twists and something different about them. Nothing leaves my kitchen until it is perfect and my aim is always to exceed expectations."
What advice do you offer brides when looking for their perfect wedding cake?
"Find a cake designer whose work you love and whose design style reflects your own preferences, then meet with them to discuss the details of your day. You don't have to find your perfect cake on their website as a good cake maker will create a bespoke design for you. It's a good idea to show your cake designer samples or images of different elements of your wedding so that they can get a true feel for what will work for you. Also, ask about delivery and set up as there may be an extra charge. For me, this is included in the price as I believe that the set up on the day is the final stage of the creation process and is all part of my service."

When should a bride order the cake?
"Ideally as soon as possible. As with a lot of wedding suppliers, cake designers can book up quite early, especially over the summer months, so it is best couples pencil in their wedding date with their preferred cake designer in plenty of time, even if they are unsure of the exact details of the cake. The exact design can then be decided nearer the time, when they have planned more details and have a clearer picture of how the wedding will look and feel."
What do you think will be the next biggest wedding cake trend?
"Dessert tables have been big news for a while now and their popularity is set to continue, with designers finding new and exciting ways to display a selection of desserts to wedding guests.
A distilled version of the dessert table idea is to have multiple wedding cakes, which is a big trend in the US and being picked up over here too. Three is the magic number and I love cake trios, either with a statement wedding cake and two smaller cakes to coordinate, or all three cakes being smaller in size, each with their own personality but with designs that tie together with each other and your overall wedding.
I am also seeing a real trend towards tall and elegant cake designs in classic shades of white and ivory, but with interesting twists and unexpected details, such as single statement decorations, lots of fine tone-on-tone details and different shaped tiers. Overall, it's all about making an impact. If you're going to do something, do it with style!"
How important is the wedding cake?
"Call me slightly biased but I think the wedding cake is very important! It is the centrepiece of the reception and something that guests will look out for as they arrive. It can also be a great way to bring together the different parts of the day to really highlight the theme, or make a unique and personal statement about the couple.
The cutting of the cake normally takes place after the wedding breakfast, before the first dance, so I feel that this signals the start of the party and is also a lovely moment for the couple to share together. However, the cake doesn't have to stick to certain rules or be a certain way, and no matter how large or small your wedding party, any cake can be exciting!"
